Si le mot varie d\u2019une langue \u00e0 l\u2019autre, le concept est \u00e0 peu de choses pr\u00e8s le m\u00eame dans toutes les civilisations. Voici la d\u00e9finition qu\u2019en propose le dictionnaire en ligne CNRTL\u00a0:\u00a0<em>\u00ab\u00a0travail assidu et m\u00e9thodique (collectif ou individuel) qui tend \u00e0 \u00e9lever un \u00eatre humain au-dessus de l\u2019\u00e9tat de nature, \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper ses qualit\u00e9s, \u00e0 pallier ses manques, \u00e0 favoriser l\u2019\u00e9closion harmonieuse de sa personnalit\u00e9.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>\u00a0Cette belle d\u00e9finition est aujourd\u2019hui sans doute un peu r\u00e9ductrice. Pour ma part, je serais enclin \u00e0 dire que la culture c\u2019est avant tout un ensemble de valeurs dans lesquelles un groupe humain peut s\u2019identifier. Autrefois, la culture \u00e9tait principalement r\u00e9gionale\u00a0: la cuisine, le v\u00eatement, les coutumes\u2026 En France on pouvait parler de culture bretonne comme de culture proven\u00e7ale ou alsacienne, cela avait un sens. Mais en retour, plus un pays \u00e9tait morcel\u00e9 en entit\u00e9s culturelles distinctes, moins ses habitants avaient le sentiment d\u2019appartenir \u00e0 la m\u00eame nation. Avec le temps les cultures locales se sont transform\u00e9es en folklore, les habitants sont devenus des citoyens et l\u2019\u00c9tat est devenu Nation.
